Great Hearts Initiatives | Jefferson Parish SPCA (Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals)

The Jefferson SPCA promotes animal welfare in Jefferson Parish and we support the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter, aiding in their lifesaving mission. Our programs prevent and address animal cruelty and provide much-needed medical treatment, rescues, and ultimately adoptions for homeless pets. We boast (we can’t help it; we’re proud) one of the most ambitious spay and neuter programs in the country and are committed to the treatment and eradication of heartworm in pets that would otherwise be euthanized. We rely on your support to continue these vital programs and to save and improve the lives of Louisiana’s kindest and furriest residents.

The Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter Department operates the two parish animal shelters at #1 Humane Way in East Jefferson and 1869 Ames Blvd. in Marrero. The shelters hold lost animals for-owners-to reclaim adopt out homeless animals to new owners and quarantine dogs and cats that have bitten. In addition the shelter investigates complaints of cruelty or neglect of animals. The shelters accept all animals turned over to them. Hours of operation and more information can be obtained by calling the East Bank shelter at 736-6111 or the West Bank shelter at 349-5111.
